5 Things to Know Before Becoming a Life Insurance Agent in 2025

Thinking about becoming a life insurance agent if you are I have to warn you there are five things that you need to know before becoming a life insurance agent that I’m going to go through in today’s video the first is what you learn to pass the test is not what you’re going to use on the job so in order to pass your test just know enough to pass you don’t have to know everything on the test to be a really successful life insurance agent I created a whole video just around this topic because I’m so
passionate about it and I see new aspiring life insurance agents that struggle with their tests because they’re trying to get a hundred percent you do not need to get a hundred percent to be a successful life insurance agent I know that sounds crazy but it’s true so if this resonates with you go watch that video I passed in four days and I’ll give you the exact strategy of how I did that but the first tip that I have for you before you become a library insurance agent is just past the test don’t spend hundreds and
hundreds and hundreds of hours stressing about getting a perfect score the second thing that you want to know before becoming a life insurance agent is what company should you join and that I believe is based on the leadership and mentorship that you want out of a leader out of an agency owner and so don’t join a company just based on the compensation or based on the leads or this that and the other you want to join based around a mentor a leader that can help you go from where you are to
where you want to go right no level of compensation or no product or nothing none of those things are going to be as important as somebody who cares about your success as a life insurance agent and so join a company or a program or Organization for the mentorship for the leader now that’s not to say that you shouldn’t take into account the leads the compensation and all those things of course that should matter however a mentor will be far more important for you in the long run than looking at
those things in the short term so choose a mentor find a leader that you can learn everything that you can from them soak up their knowledge especially if they are where you want to be right and so join an organization or a company based on the mentorship or the leadership the third thing that you want to know before becoming a life insurance agent is do you actually enjoy the product I see a lot of people join because the money is enticing being able to work remotely from home is enticing but
once they’re in they’re like man I don’t want to sell final expense insurance I don’t want to sell mortgage protection insurance right that’s not fun for me and that’s what I did right my first year in life insurance I didn’t sell that much because I don’t enjoy mortgage protection insurance it’s just true now if you have a why a massive reason as to why why you want to have the income that those things provide then that might be enough for you to sell mortgage protection in your final expense or whatever right
like if it’s for your family and you need you need the money you want the flexibility that might be enough for you to sell those types of products but for me I didn’t love it I didn’t feel like I was being super helpful in those moments uh selling final expense or mortgage protection specifically and so I didn’t do a great job of that now I found a product that I absolutely love and we help people get out of debt with life insurance which is just like I love talking about it I love making content around it and so that
makes it so much easier for me to go and sell right so the third thing is do you actually care about the product or do you have a why behind why you want to make the money that those types of product can provide for you or your family the fourth thing is kind of crazy but is it do you care about people ultimately selling is helping and so maybe you don’t love the product the final expense but hey you want to save this person some heartache when they actually have a loved one pass away they don’t
have to plan for the funeral costs this that and the other right so do you care about people right if you don’t love the product maybe you care about the people in the a mission more than the product itself and so that can kind of help you fall in love with the product and help you kind of reach your why of your income goals and so the fourth thing is really do you care about people because ultimately a lot of people come into life insurance and they’re scared to sell right maybe you’ve never sold
before but ultimately selling is helping and if you believe in the products and you want to help people then selling becomes really easy the fifth thing is probably one of the things that we utilize the most and that is should you start full-time should you start part-time what does that look like I would recommend before you become a life insurance agent that you decide to a start part-time or B have an emergency fund so that you can kind of have a Runway because you’re basically starting a mini business
right becoming a salesperson is not a guaranteed salary right and so you’re not guaranteed to come in and not get out of the park now some people do and they get to Six Figure run right or like a you know eight thousand dollar month um ongoing right would be a six figure run right so some people do come in and do that all you have really have to do is take action and follow the steps and if you have a right mentor and you love the product you love the people then you’re gonna be
successful here but some people it’s probably my struggle in their first month and that’s okay if you keep doing the actions following the mentor’s guidance then you’ll be successful as a life insurance agent but you might want to think about starting part-time utilizing the job that you have work evenings work weekends whatever that looks like for you or have an emergency fund right have two three six months worth worth of savings before you make the jump into full-time life insurance agent lifestyle
