the role of business in society business by definition is the practice of making one’s living by engaging in commerce in a person’s regular occupation profession or trade business owners like Jeff Bezos the founder of Amazon and Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft are currently the wealthiest men alive business owners have the ability to achieve immense wealth if their ideas flourish the most successful businesses stem from innovative and new ideas that can solve issues in different areas of society but owners of companies are not the only people that benefit from the operation of a business business aids consumers in acquiring the goods and services needed for
success in society unfortunately even the most successful businesses can bring upon harm in some areas large scale factories can produce an abundance of waste which often leads to pollution debris and even global climate change the world’s natural resources like timber oil and metals are used to manufacture goods which further brings about the same negative spillover effects on the environment due to the pressures of activists and today’s society many businesses are being challenged to remain sustainable in their production processes and resources Ford Motor Company is now using materials that can be recycled Nike has moved to utilize recycled polyester in their fabrics Starbucks has not only purchased Fairtrade certified organic coffee but also focuses on achieving LED certifications for its new
store locations all of these well-known companies are feeling the pressure from the environmental and social expectations around them and are making changes in their production and service in order to be sustainable for the environment and the success of their business so clearly the environment has a substantial effect on the world of business due to the importance of established values and ethics in the workplace the market is constantly growing with new firms coming from ideas of individuals so consumers have many options to choose from one aspect of business that is becoming increasingly more popular as the idea of maintaining values inside any organization they this ethics and state corporate social behavior and goals which quickly transforms into financial benefits for that company consumers want to know that the money they are spending is supporting a good cause so this factor directly affects their decision on where exactly they want to shop here at Eastern
Mennonite University some of the core values exemplified through the learning process are Christian discipleship service and peacebuilding business I EMU has already begun to help me connect these ideas to the world of business my faith allows strongly with those exact callings so I will be able to take them with me to my future workplace I now understand that business is a leading factor that controls much of society in today’s culture business at EMU has not only helped me learn more about the structure of business.
